Dr Jim Kerss

Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine

I am a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine, seeing patients at the OrthTeam Centre with all types of musculoskeletal and sports injury, but particularly specialising in bone stress, ligament, meniscal injuries and tendon pain. Whether you are an elite competitor striving for peak performance, an active individual struggling with chronic pain, or simply trying to return to daily life without discomfort, I provide comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to your specific goals.

I have a particular interest in sports‑related concussion and run specialist concussion assessments, supporting patients through safe, structured rehabilitation following both recent head injury and those with ongoing post‑concussive symptoms. I often receive referrals for assessment and management of patients and athletes experiencing injury or health problems related to Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S).

Alongside my private practice, I am Chief of Sports Medicine at the UK Sports Institute where I lead our sports medicine team in providing care for Great Britain’s Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth athletes. I bring the same world class standards, modern diagnostic techniques and structured treatment pathways used at the highest level of sport directly to your care.

I am actively involved in training and mentoring doctors within sport and exercise medicine and am the current chair of the Team Care Committee for the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine – setting standards and raising the level of healthcare delivery for athletes across the country.
