I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in peripheral nerve, hand and upper limb surgery.
Expertise in nerve surgery
Following my consultant appointment at Wrightington hospital in 2013, I have established a new clinical service providing treatment for patients with peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries. I regularly manage nerve palsies following trauma, fracture, dislocation or surgery involving the neck, arm or leg. I offer the whole spectrum of reconstructive options for nerve injury, including neurolysis, nerve repair, nerve grafting, nerve transfer and tendon/muscle transfer. I work closely with neurologists, neurophysiologists, radiologists, pain specialists and physiotherapists within a multidisciplinary team, to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.
I have also developed particular interests and experience in the management of scapular winging (prominent shoulder blade). I offer a comprehensive assessment in order to establish the underlying cause, which can then guide the appropriate treatment. In select patients, nerve decompression surgery may offer remarkable recovery and I have presented my results in national and international scientific meetings.
Expertise in hand and upper limb surgery
I am fellowship-trained in hand and upper limb surgery. In addition to fracture fixation covering the whole upper limb from the collarbone to the fingertip. I have developed expertise in the treatment of arthritis, ligament injury, tendon injury and sports injury of the hand and wrist. I am passionate about the application of arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) in the treatment of scaphoid nonunion due to its excellent results, which I have published in a peer-reviewed journal. I regularly teach on international wrist arthroscopy courses and lecture at national and international scientific meetings.

I currently serve as a council member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and a committee member of Training Interface Group in Hand Surgery.
In 2002, I graduated from the University of Edinburgh as the gold medalist. Subsequently, I completed orthopaedic training in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and obtained my surgical fellowship in 2011. I then completed an upper limb fellowship in Wrightington Hospital and a training interface group (orthoplastic) hand fellowship in Manchester. During my fellowships, I successfully obtained postgraduate certification in hand surgery from both the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the European Board of Hand Surgery (in which I won the best performance award).
I have travelled to multiple centres of excellence in Europe, North America and Asia to learn from leading experts in hand and nerve surgery. My pursuits of professional development have been supported by the awards of Zimmer SCOT travelling fellowship, BOA travelling fellowship, FESSH travelling award and BSSH Stack fellowship.
