I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in sports knee injuries and soft tissue/reconstructive knee surgery.
I am the knee surgeon to the top Super League rugby clubs in addition to professional rugby union, football and motocross athletes. I help both professional and amateur athletes to return to fitness by both surgical and non-surgical treatments. However, many soft tissue knee problems affect non-sportsmen and all patients receive the same high level of care.
I am committed to teaching and training and am the programme director for the Wrightington Sports Knee Fellowship. This enables orthopaedic surgeons to gain specialist training in sports knee surgery prior to them taking up a consultant post.
Owing to my specialist practice in sports injury, I do not perform joint replacement surgery. I see patients from ages 12-60.
Initially from Cumbria, I qualified from St Bartholomew's Medical School (London) in 2001. I completed my basic surgical training in the North West before being selected for specialist orthopaedic training on the Oswestry Orthopaedic Rotation in 2006. Whilst at Oswestry, I trained under eminent sport/knee surgeon Mr Dai Rees, which helped shape my career in sports knee surgery.
